Living in a rapidly evolving technological era, we’ve been forced to adapt new norms. As New Yorkers, we’re proud of our fast paced etiquette yet often dismiss its negative manifestations in our lives. We constantly seek distractions, which are very easy to find, considering that we’re all equipped with personal extensions, better known as smart phones. The importance of these devices plays such a major role in our everyday lives, that we could not fathom the idea of putting our phone down for longer than a few minutes, let alone leaving it behind as we go about our day. In many ways, this dependency can be described as an addiction. But, what happens when the shoe fits objectively? I like to think of it as a kind of epidemic whose spread we’ve become oblivious to. An epidemic so severe that has shifted socialization norms and resulted in the rise of social anxiety, ADHD and isolation. Through the form of an experimental social critique, this film explores the concept of technological dehumanization.
